Safety Blanket
The blanket my dear friend,
I pick you up mindlessly,
On my way out the window.
You keep me sheltered,
from cold despair and sorrow.
Yet I drop you carelessly,
On the way back in, Amen!
How is it every time,
Selfless being that you are,
Shield my envelope.
Leaving my mind free,
to elope, past the clouds,
And past the the forgotten cold by far,
All the while knowing my body will be fine.
Much like the mindless mingling
of ants in a straight line,
Why is it I cannot stir,
away from the uxorious illusion,
Of the safety of my own company.
I pick you up mindlessly,
On my way out the window.
You keep me sheltered,
from cold despair and sorrow.
Yet I drop you carelessly,
On the way back in, Amen!
How is it every time,
Selfless being that you are,
Shield my envelope.
Leaving my mind free,
to elope, past the clouds,
And past the the forgotten cold by far,
All the while knowing my body will be fine.
Much like the mindless mingling
of ants in a straight line,
Why is it I cannot stir,
away from the uxorious illusion,
Of the safety of my own company.
